SUMMARY

This article explains Remote Access Service (RAS) Event IDs as they appear in the Event Viewer System Log of Windows versions 3.1 and 3.5. The following list contains the error code (RAS EVENT ID), the symbol name, the message text, a brief explanation of the code, and a suggested course of action to correct the problem causing the error code.

NOTE: RAS Event ID's begin with RAS_LOG_BASE = 20000. However, RAS Event ID codes specific to Windows NT version 3.5 begin with RAS_LOG_BASE = 20064.

20010 RASLOG AUTODISCONNECT The user connected to port %1 has been disconnected due to inactivity.   Re-dial and then reconnect to the port.
20011 RASLOG EXCEPT MEMORY The user connected to port %1 has been disconnected because there is not enough memory available in the system.   Install more memory in the RAS server.
20012 RASLOG EXCEPT SYSTEM The user connected to port %1 has been disconnected due to a system error. A system error caused the RAS user to be disconnected. Look in the Event Viewer for other system error messages, correct the failure and re-dial.
20013 RASLOG EXCEPT LAN FAILURE The user connected to port %1 has been disconnected due to a fatal network error on the local network. Possible physical network error Verify that the network adapter is connected and working properly.
20014 RASLOG EXCEPT ASYNC FAILURE The user connected to port %1 has been disconnected due to a fatal network error on the async network. Possible serial port problems. Verify that the serial ports are working properly
20015 RASLOG DEV HW ERROR The communications device attached to port %1 is not functioning Hardware failure Verify that the modem is working properly. Check the cabling.
20016 RASLOG AUTH FAILURE The user %1 has connected and failed to authenticate on port %2. The line has been disconnected.   Check the permissions on the user in the RAS admin utility. Check user name and password.
20017 RASLOG AUTH SUCCESS The user %1 has connected and has been successfully authenticated on port %2.    
20018 RASLOG AUTH CONVERSTION FAILURE The user connected to port %1 has been disconnected because there was a transports-level error during the authentication conversation.   Re-dial and try again:
20019 RASLOG USER DISCONNECTED The user has disconnected from port %2 The remote user has hung up.  
20020 RASLOG CANT RESET LAN Cannot reset the network adapter for LANA %1. The error code is the data.   Reconfigure RAS.
20021 RASLOG CANT GET COMPUTERNAME Remote Access Server Security Failure. Cannot locate the computer name. The message appears when the remote computer name cannot be found, so the computer cannot be validated. Reconfigure RAS on the client.
20022 RASLOG CANT ADD RASSECURITYNAME Remote Access Server Security Failure. Cannot add the name for communication with the security agent on LANA %1 Possible duplicate name on LANA %1 Verify that another server on LANA %1 does not have the same name.
20023 RASLOG CANT GET ADAPTERADDRESS Remote Access Server Security Failure. Cannot access the network adapter address on LANA %1.   Reconfigure RAS
20024 RASLOG SESSOPEN REJECTED Remote Access Server Security Failure. The security agent has rejected the Remote Access server's call to establish a session on LANA %1. A remote access security agent is running on your local network. Contact your system administrator.
20025 RASLOG START SERVICE REJECTED Remote Access Server Security Failure. The security agent has rejected the Remote Access server's request to start the service on this computer on LANA %1 A remote access security agent is running on your local network. Contact your system administrator.
20026 RASLOG SECURITY NET ERROR Remote Access Server Security Failure. A network error has occurred when trying to establish a session with the security agent on LANA %1. The error code is the data.   Reconfigure RAS
20027 RASLOG EXCEPT OSRESNOTAV The user connected to port %1 has been disconnected because there are no operating system resources available.   Free up some memory on the server by optimizing memory allocations to other resources, or by stopping some non- essential services, or by installing additional memory on the server.
20028 RASLOG EXCEPT LOCKFAIL The user connected to port %1 has been disconnected because of a failure to lock user memory.    
20029 RASLOG CANNOT OPEN RASHUB Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because RASHUB could not be opened.   Reinstall RAS
20030 RASLOG CANNOT INIT SEC ATTRIBUTE Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because it could not initialize the security attributes   Re-boot computer, or re-install RAS if problem persists
20031 RASLOG CANNOT GET ENDPOINTS Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because no endpoints were available.   Re-boot computer, or re-install RAS if problem persists.
20032 RASLOG CANNOT GET MEDIA INFO Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because it could not load one or more communication DLL's. Possible hardware problem Ensure that your communications H/W is installed properly and re-boot. If problem persists, re-install RAS.
20033 RASLOG CANNOT GET PORT INFO Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because it could not locate port information from Media DLL's. Possible hardware problem Ensure that your communications H/W is installed properly and re-boot. If problem persists, re-install RAS.
20034 RASLOG CANNOT GET PROTOCOL INFO Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because it could not access protocol information from the Registry Possible Registry problem Re-boot computer. If problem persists, re-install RAS.
20035 RASLOG CANNOT REGISTER LSA Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because it could not register with the Local Security Authority. Possible Registry problem Re-boot computer. If problem persists, re-install RAS.
20036 RASLOG CANNOT CREATE FILEMAPPING Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because it could not create shared file mapping.   Re-boot computer. If problem persists, re-install RAS.
20037 RASLOG CANNOT INIT BUFFERS Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because it could not create buffers   Re-boot computer. If problem persists,
20038 RASLOG CANNOT INIT REQTHREAD Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because it could not access resources   Re-boot computer. If problem persists, re-install RAS.
20039 RASLOG CANNOT START WORKERS Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because it could not start worker threads.   Re-boot computer. If problem persists, re-install RAS.
20040 RASLOG CANT GET LANNETS Remote Access Server failure. Cannot find the LANA numbers for the network adapters. RAS was not installed properly. Remove and re-install RAS
20041 RASLOG CANNOT OPEN SERIAL INI RASSER.DLL cannot open the SERIAL.INI file.   Check configuration of RAS with Network option in Control Panel.
20042 RASLOG CANNOT GET ASYNCMAC HANDLE An attempt by RASSER.DLL to get a async media access control handle failed.   Check configuration of RAS with Network option in Control Panel. Reinstall RAS if needed.
20043 RASLOG CANNOT LOAD SERIAL DLL RASMXS.DLL cannot load RASSER.DLL.   Remove and re-install RAS
20044 RASLOG CANNOT ALLOCATE ROUTE The Remote Access Server cannot allocate a route for the user connected on port %1. The user has been disconnected. Check the configuration of your Remote Access Service.   Check configuration of RAS with Network option in Control Panel. Reinstall RAS if needed.
20045 RASLOG ADMIN MEMORY FAILURE Cannot allocate memory in the admin support thread for the Remote Access Service. Since the memory can't be allocate, RAS cannot be used. Check configuration of RAS with Network option in Control Panel. Reinstall RAS if needed.
20046 RASLOG ADMIN THREAD CREATION FAILURE Cannot create an instance thread in the admin support thread for Remote Access Service    
20047 RASLOG ADMIN PIPE CREATION FAILURE Cannot create a named pipe instance in the admin support thread for Remote Access Service.   Re-boot computer. If problem persists, re-install RAS.
20048 RASLOG ADMIN PIPE FAILURE General named pipe failure occurred in the admin support thread for Remote Access Service.   Re-boot computer. If problem persists, re-install RAS.
20049 RASLOG ADMIN INVALID REQUEST An invalid request was sent to the admin support thread for Remote Access Service, possibly from a down level admin tool. The request was not processed.   Re-boot computer. If problem persists, re-install RAS.
20050 RASLOG USER ACTIVE TIME The user %1 was active on port %2 for %3 minutes %4 minutes.    
20051 RASLOG REGVALUE OVERIDDEN Using the default value for Registry parameter %1 because the value given is not in the legal range for the parameter. Illegal entry in the registry for the parameter given. Check the Registry entries.
20052 RASLOG AUTH TIMEOUT The user connected to port %1 has been disconnected due an authentication time-out. The caller has taken to long to authenticate Try to connect to port again. If problem persisted, increase the authentication time.
20053 RASLOG AUTH NO PROJECTIONS The user %1 connected to port %2 has been disconnected because the computer could not be projected onto the network.   Disconnect and the re-connect to the network. Make sure that the remote computer has a UNIQUE computer name.
20054 RASLOG AUTH INTERNAL ERROR The user %1 connected to port %2 has been disconnected because and internal authentication error occurred.   Try to connect to port again. Re-boot and re-install RAS.
20055 RASLOG NO LANNETS AVAILABLE The Remote Access server could not be started because it has been configured to access the network and there are no network adapters available. The configuration of RAS does not match the configuration of the computer Reconfigure RAS to access the local computer only, or put a network adapter on the computer.
20056 RASLOG NETBIOS SESSION ESTABLISHED The user %1 established a NetBIOS session between the remote workstation and the network server.    
20057 RASLOG RASMAN NOT AVAILABLE Remote Access Service failed to start because the Remote Access Connection Manager failed to initialize. RAS Connection Manager is configured incorrectly. Check the Event viewer for related errors to determine the configuration problem.
20058 RASLOG CANT ADD NAME Cannot add the remote computer name %1 on LANA %2. the error code is the data. Another computer on the network has the same name as the remote computer. Remove the other computer from the network, or rename the remote computer.
20059 RASLOG CANT DELETE NAME Cannot delete the remote computer name %1 from LANA %2. The error code is the data. An internal error has occurred. Get the data from the Event Viewer and contact technical support.
20060 RASLOG CANT ADD GROUPNAME Cannot add remote computer group name %1 on LANA %2. The error code is the data. A computer has the same name as the remote computer group name. Remove the computer with the duplicate name from the network.
20061 RASLOG CANT DELETE GROUPNAME Cannot delete the remote computer group name %1 from LANA %2. the error code is the data. An internal error has occurred. Get the data from the Event Viewer and contact technical support.
20062 RASLOG UNSUPPORTED BPS The modem on %1 moved to an unsupported BPS rate. The COM port does not support the speed that the modem tried to use. Try a different COM port, or change the BPS rate to a supported value.
20063 RASLOG SERIAL QUEUE SIZE SMALL The serial driver could not allocate adequate I/O queues. the may result in a unreliable connection If you are using a muli-port adapter card, it may be configured to use too many ports. Or you are out of memory. Reduce the number of ports being used on the multiport adapter. Add more memory.
20064 RASLOG CANNOT REOPEN BIPLEX PORT Remote Access connection Manager could not re-open bi-plex port %1. The port will not be available to calling in or calling out. Restart all Remote Access Service components. Possible hardware of configuration problem. Stop and re-start all RAS services and components. If problems still persists, reinstall RAS
20065 RASLOG DISCONNECT ERROR Internal Error: Disconnect operation on %1 completed with an error. Disconnected from remote user with an error. USER ACTION Have the remote user call in again and retry operation. Re-boot computer if needed.
20066 RASLOG PPP PIPE FAILURE General named pipe failure occurred in the Point to Point Protocol engine.   Re-boot computer. Re-install RAS with PPP if needed
20067 RASLOG CANNOT INIT PPP Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because the Point to Point Protocol failed to initialize.   Re-boot computer. Re-install RAS with PPP if needed
20068 RASLOG CLIENT CALLED BACK The user %1 on port %2 was called back at the number %3.    
20069 RASLOG PROXY CANT CREATE PROCESS The Remote Access Gateway Proxy could not create a process.   Check RAS Gateway installation.
20070 RASLOG PROXY CANT CREATE PIPE The Remote Access Gateway Proxy could not create a process   Check RAS Gateway installation.
20071 RASLOG PROXY CANT CONNECT PIPE The Remote Access Gateway Proxy could not establish a named pipe connection with the Remote Access Supervisor Proxy.   :
20072 RASLOG PROXY PIPE FAILURE A general error occurred on the named pipe in the remote Access %1 Proxy.    
20073 RASLOG CANT OPEN PPP REGKEY cannot open obtain information about the PPP key or one its subkeys. Possible Registry problem. Check the Registry for PPP entries
20074 RASLOG PPP CANT LOAD DLL Point to Point Protocol engine was unable to load the %1 module.    
20075 RASLOG PPPCP DLL ERROR :The Point to Point Protocol module %1 return an error while initializing.    
20076 RASLOG NO AUTHENTICATION CPS The point to Point protocol failed to load the required PAP and/or CHAP authentication modules.    
20077 RASLOG PPP FAILURE MESSAGE TEXT: An error occurred in the Point to Point Protocol module. The error code is the data.   Save the data from the event log and call Tech Support.
20078 RASLOG IPXCP NETWORK NUMBER CONFLICT The IPX network number %1 configured for the WAN interface is already in use on the LAN.   Re-configure the IPX network number in question
20079 RASLOG IPXCP CANNOT CHANGE WAN NETWORK NUMBER The IPX network number %1 requested by the remote client for the WAN interface cannot be used on the local IPX router because the router is not configured to change its local WAN network numbers. You should configure the IPX Remote Access Service to alloc   You should configure the IPX Remote Access Service to allocate addresses automatically and use different address for remote IPX clients.
20080 RASLOG PASSWORD EXPIRED The password for user %1\%2 connected on port %3 has expired. The line has been disconnected. The user password has expired. Change password. Contact administrator if you are unable to change the password without logging on first.
20081 RASLOG ACCT EXPIRED The account for user %1\%2 connected on port %3 has expired. The line has been disconnected. The user account has expired. Contact the administrator.
20082 RASLOG NO DIALIN PRIVILEGE The account for user %1\%2 connected on port %3 does not have Remote Access privilege. The line has been disconnected. The user account does not have Remote Access privileges. Contact the administrator.
20083 RASLOG UNSUPPORTED VERSION The software version of the user %1\%2 connected on port %3 is unsupported. The line has been disconnected.    
20084 RASLOG ENCRYPTION REQUIRED The server machine is configured to require data encryption. The machine for user %1\%2 connected on port %3 does not support encryption. The line has been disconnected. The RAS Server (Windows NT 3.5 or later)is configured to use Data Encryption Enable Data encryption via the RAS Phonebook Security entry.
20085 RASLOG NO SECURITY CHECK Remote Access Server Security Failure. Could not reset lana %1 (the error code is the data). Security check not performed.    
20086 RASLOG GATEWAY NOT ACTIVE ON NET The Remote Access Server could not reset lana %1 (the error code is the data) and will not be active on it.    
20087 RASLOG IPXCP NO NET NUMBER The IPX network number for the LAN adapter with the MAC address %1 on the local machine has not been configured or could not be auto-detected. The IPX Router will not work on this LAN segment. RAS Server is unable to route NWLink traffic from the RAS client. Contact the administrator. 20088 RASLOG SRV ADDR LEASE LOST The Remote Access Server was unable to renew the lease for IP Address %1 from the DHCP Server. ALL connected users using IP will be unable to access network resources. Users can re- connect to the server to restore IP connectivity. The RAS server is unable to communicate via TCP/IP. Contact the administrator. Possible DHCP Server Problem.
20089 RASLOG CLIENT ADDR LEASE LOST The Remote Access Server was unable to renew the lease for IP Address %1 from the DHCP Server. The user assigned with this IP address will be unable to access network resources using IP. Re-connecting to the server will restore IP connectivity. The RAS client is unable to communicate to the remotenetwork via TCP/IP Contact the administrator. Possible DHCP Server Problem.
20090 RASLOG ADDRESS NOT AVAILABLE The Remote Access Server was unable to acquire an IP Address from the DHCP Server to assign to the incoming user. The RAS client will be unable to communicate to the remote network via TCP/IP. Contact the administrator. Possible DHCP Server Problem.
20091 RASLOG SRV ADDR NOT AVAILABLE The Remote Access Server was unable to acquire an IP Address from the DHCP Server to be used on the Server Adapter. Incoming user will be unable to connect using IP. The RAS client will be unable to communicate to the remote network via TCP/IP. Contact the administrator. Possible DHCP Server Problem.
20092 RASLOG SRV ADDR ACQUIRED The Remote Access Server acquired IP Address %1 from the DHCP Server to be used on the Server Adapter. The RAS Server has an IP address for its NDISWan connection.  
20093 RASLOG CALLBACK FAILURE The Remote Access Server's attempt to callback user %1\%2 on port %3 failed with RAS error code %4. The RAS Server was unable to complete a callback Contact Administrator
20094 RASLOG PROXY WRITE PIPE FAILURE A general error occurred writing to the named pipe in the Remote Access Proxy.    
20095 RASLOG CANT OPEN SECMODULE KEY Cannot open the RAS security host Registry key. Registry problem  
20096 RASLOG CANT LOAD SECDLL Cannot load the Security host module component. Registry Problem. Reconfigure RAS by removing and then re-installing it.
20097 RASLOG SEC AUTH FAILURE The user %1 has connected and failed to authenticate with a third party security on port %2. The line has been disconnected. The security host connected to the RAS server failed to authenticate the user. Contact the administrator.
20098 RASLOG SEC AUTH INTERNAL ERROR The user connected to port %1 has been disconnected because an internal authentication error occurred in the third party security module. The error code is in the data. The security host connected to the RAS server failed to authenticate the user. Contact the administrator.
20099 RASLOG CANT RECEIVE BYTES Cannot receive initial data on port %1. The user has been disconnected. Possible bad phone lines or bad modem.  
20100 RASLOG AUTH DIFFUSER FAILURE The user was authenticated as %1 by the third party security host module but was authenticated as %2 by the RAS security. The user has been disconnected. The security host connected to the RAS server authenticated a different user than was passed to the RAS server. Use the same user name for the security host as the RAS server.
20101 RASLOG LICENSE LIMIT EXCEEDED A user was unable to connect on port %1. No more connections can be made to this remote computer because the computer has exceeded its client license limit.
